Welcome to the wild. As long as I can remember I have always wanted to have a piece of land in the woods. I wanted to be able to rely more on myself and less on the world for my basic needs. I wanted a place to go to escape the hectic pace of life, spend time with family and connect with creation. I purchased an Amish made shed and am converting it into a home. An off grid tiny cabin located in the wilds of northern Minnesota. Along the way my time will also be filled with activities that promote self sufficiency and a weekend homesteading theme. Van Camping, hunting, fishing, kayaking, foraging, mushroom hunting, and of course all the projects that come with an off grid homestead.
Shocking revelation: The Tiny Cabin roof is finished!
Welcome to the weekend homestead! My tiny cabin is off the grid and located located up north in the vast forest of Minnesota!
It's been a long time coming!! It seems like forever ago when I was freaking out about the rain in December on the roof sheathing! This week the metal roofing was finally completed on the bunkhouse with the installation of the rear facia, rakers and ridge peak.
And I survived.....barely! A couple of almost falls got my heart pumping but it's over and done!
I still have to add the deck and paint but for now it's time to move inside and start working on the interior.

Hello terry how have you been well I hope I’ve heard on the news where I am about all the flooding in your state I hope it isn’t affecting you at your river house or at the cabin but I did t see any flooding at your cabin so I guess everything is ok there sorry I haven’t been commenting on your videos lately I have been watching them but I like to watch all my videos on my tv then comment on my iPad but I guess I’ve been to tired to write anything or forget but I have been watching just to let you know but anyways your luckily that the birds have left the nest I had a big problem last summer with the nest above my door at my cabin the damm birds were there most of the summer so I couldn’t put up my screens and enjoy my porch the bunk house is getting there I see I can’t believe you crazy SOB lol you were on that roof putting on that ridge cap and recording that at the same time and carrying all that stuff up there I don’t know how you do it I’m watching on my tv saying omg I hope he doesn’t fall I don’t think I would ever do that especially being alone but I’m glad you didn’t get hurt and btw thanks for not showing us you checking your undercarriage hahaha I don’t think you tube would of published that video just kidding around with you man you know I love those videos you put out but I’m glad river is feeling better good luck with the rest of your projects around the cabin and take care see you on your next adventure

I feel your pain, just finished the ridge cap on the 8/12 pitch metal roof on my cabin. Tried straddling but that killed my knees, I ended up holding a rope over the peak with one hand and doing it that way. Either way, not fun.
8/12 sounded good on paper. Until I had to build it!!!

Hard to say about the coffee. I’m still undecided. I’m having a little trouble keeping it smoldering so maybe not completely dry?
I saw a video where a guy claims clip on dragon flies work to keep horse flies and mosquitoes away
I have a couple of them. I’m undecided if they work.

Why such a steep roof pitch? With steel, it's really not necesssary.
I was hoping to get some more ceiling height for a lift. It really didn’t gain enough and if I was to do again I’d go 6/12 instead of 8/12 for sure. At least I shouldn’t have to shovel the snow off it should slide
If you have clips on your drill and impact gun you can use your side or rear pockets to transport your tools up ladders and scaffolding.
